E-Books...
The 3 Most FrequentlyAsked Questions
What should I write my Ebook about?
The best E-books provide information that people want to know. And where do you go to find out what questions people are asking about your particular niche subject? Forums! Type your subject into Google and add the word Forums, then click the search button. Time spent browsing the forums associated with your topic or your niche subject will be very well spent, make notes as you read the posts. You are looking in particular for questions that are often asked. It can also be useful to look in the post archives of Forums to see which questions occur again and again. Some Forums make it even easier for you by having a frequently asked questions area. Go straight there and choose a subject for your Ebook.
How long should my Ebook be?
The length of your Ebook depends on what you want your Ebook to do. If you're selling an Ebook that is an instruction manual for a complicated and sophisticated process than 250 to 300 pages would not be out of the question. Presumably you would be charging hundreds of dollars for such a book so it will be worth the effort you'd have to put into writing it.
At the other end of the scale are the free Ebooks given away to tempt subscribers to give you their details on your squeeze page or opt in box. This can be punchy and brief, anything from 5 to 50 pages, presenting information in a down-to-earth way, but not going into any extensive detail. The idea being that if your reader is interested in what you've already written they will click on your sales page link and spend some money with you for a more extensive Ebook on the subject.
What format should my Ebook be in?
Your Ebook will eventually need to be a PDF. Adobe's Portable Document Format is easily downloadable and readable on practically every computer on the planet. Most computers are now preloaded with Adobe's reader software, but it's worth reminding your readers that they can download Acrobat Reader free of charge and provide a link to Adobe's download site when they are downloading your Ebook.
Many people still insist on writing their Ebooks in Microsoft Word. They then have the problem of how to convert that word document into a PDF document. It's not difficult, but you do need another piece of software and you can sometimes lose formatting detail in the transfer. There is a better way. Go to www.OpenOffice.org and download the excellent OpenOffice software suite. The amazing thing is that this software is absolutely free. If you write your Ebook in OpenOffice-Write you can format it how you like, you can add graphics and links, then with a single click on a button in the toolbar, save that document as a PDF. It's that simple!
